First day of the G7 Summit

13 June 2024

The Summit of the G7 Heads of State and Government chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, got underway today at Borgo Egnazia, in Italy’s Apulia Region. On the first day of the Summit, the working sessions ‘Africa, Climate Change and Development’, ‘Middle East’ and ‘Ukraine’ were held. The working session on Ukraine was also attended by President Zelensky. A side event on the G7 Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) was held later in the afternoon, followed by a flag ceremony and closing press statement by President Meloni. In the evening, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, received the G7 Leaders at the Swabian Castle of Brindisi for an official dinner.

Ten adopted children from Haiti arrive in Italy

8 June 2024

The Italian Government has taken action to bring ten children from Haiti to Italy. The children have been adopted by Italian families but for security reasons linked to the serious ongoing situation in the Caribbean nation, marred by devastating criminality, they had been unable to leave their places of residence until now (nine were living in the capital Port-au-Prince and one in a small town approximately 200 km away).

President Meloni visits Albania

5 June 2024

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, travelled to Albania today, where, together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, she visited the areas provided for by the memorandum of understanding between Italy and Albania for cooperation on the management of migration flows. At the end of the visit, the two leaders issued statements to the press.

President Meloni’s telephone conversation with President Michel

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The conversation focused on the next issues to be discussed at EU level, and in particular the definition of the EU Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, which Italy believes must address security and defence, confirm the new European approach to managing the migration phenomenon and strengthen the strategic autonomy and competitiveness of European industry as priorities.

President Meloni presents Italian flag to K2 expedition team

4 June 2024

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the female mountaineering team who will be heading to K2 to mark the 70th anniversary of the successful expedition by Italian mountaineers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, who were led by Ardito Desio, at Palazzo Chigi today.

G7 Leaders’ statement on Gaza

3 June 2024

We, the Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), fully endorse and will stand behind the comprehensive deal outlined by President Biden that would lead to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian assistance for distribution throughout Gaza, and an enduring end to the crisis, with Israel’s security interests and Gazan civilian safety assured. We reaffirm our support for a credible pathway towards peace leading to a two State solution. We call on Hamas to accept this deal, that Israel is ready to move forward with, and we urge countries with influence over Hamas to help ensure that it does so.

President Meloni attends Republic Day celebrations

2 June 2024

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, attended this morning’s ceremony at the Altare della Patria memorial in Rome, where the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. President Meloni later attended the traditional military parade in via dei Fori Imperiali.
