NRRP steering committee meeting held at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by President Meloni
A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) was held at Palazzo Chigi this afternoon. The meeting, called by Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, was chaired by President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni and was also attended by Government Ministers and representatives of regional, provincial and municipal authorities. During the meeting, the progress of NRRP implementation was reviewed and an update was provided on the payment of the third instalment, amounting to EUR 18.5 billion, which should arrive in the coming days. There was also an update on the payment request for the fourth instalment, amounting to EUR 16.5 billion, which the Government sent to the European Commission on 22 September, and regarding an initial analysis of the milestones and targets to be met for the fifth instalment, also based on the proposed revision of the Plan.

I welcome with great interest French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal for cooperation on the fight against illegal immigration. It is clear that Italy, France and the EU must act together to support migrants’ states of origin and to help states of transit dismantle criminal networks of human traffickers. President Meloni meets with Prime Minister of Canada at UNGA
President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni had a long and cordial meeting today with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada. The two leaders discussed cooperation between their countries within the G7, in light of the upcoming Italian Presidency and Canada’s Presidency the year after. Both agreed to ensure good coordination in the management of the two presidencies. President Meloni talked about the priorities of Italy’s Presidency, which focus on the continued commitment to support Ukraine in the war of aggression, greater attention to Africa’s problems, and the search for solutions to turn crises into development opportunities. Lastly, a great deal of attention was paid to the challenges of artificial intelligence, which must become a tool at the service of human beings, respecting their ethical principles.
