President Meloni’s call with President of Congo

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a cordial telephone conversation today with the President of Congo, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, to discuss the excellent bilateral relations. During the conversation, President Meloni illustrated her vision of a partnership with Africa inspired by a non-predatory cooperation model, as set out in the ‘Mattei Plan for Africa’. In this context, Italy’s commitment with regard to the food crisis was highlighted, with the organisation of the food systems summit that will be held in Rome this July and the Italy-Africa conference in October.

President Meloni meets with Prime Minister Frederiksen of the Kingdom of Denmark

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met this morning with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, who is on a private visit to Italy, for an exchange of views on key European priorities, from comprehensive support for Ukraine to European management of migration flows, the revision of the Stability and Growth Pact and the EU’s industrial and technological sovereignty.

Meeting with Rome EXPO 2030 Promoting Committee and BIE delegation

President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni met today at Palazzo Chigi with delegates from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), who are visiting Rome to check the progress of preparations for the city’s candidacy to host EXPO 2030. The meeting discussed the Italian Government’s commitment to guarantee all the necessary conditions for the best possible running of the event, which has across-the-board support from the whole of Italian society. Italy will work hard for the success of the project, which focuses on environmental sustainability and inclusivity.

NRRP steering committee meetings with businesses and trade unions held at Palazzo Chigi. Minister Fitto: with the decree approved today, we are strengthening and enhancing discussions with partners

Discussions continue between the Government and economic and social partners for the inclusion of the REPowerEU chapter in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (‘NRRP’). On the day of Parliament’s definitive approval of the ‘NRRP Decree Law’ (decree law no. 13/2023), dialogue with partners has been strengthened and enhanced by transferring the discussions previously attributed to the technical round table for partners to the NRRP steering committee, the policy guidance body that coordinates and gives impetus to the Plan’s implementation. “With today’s steering committee meetings with business and trade union representatives, we are giving an initial concrete response to the provisions of the decree. With regard to our approach, we have set up a series of sector-specific round tables to look at issues in detail and ensure adequate time for discussion for all” stated Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto during the meetings held at Palazzo Chigi this afternoon.

President Meloni meets with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, together with the Minister for Sport, Andrea Abodi, met today with the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, at Palazzo Chigi. The meeting was also attended by the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), Giovanni Malagò, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, Andrea Varnier.

President Meloni meets with CISL Secretary-General Luigi Sbarra

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the Secretary General of trade union organisation CISL, Luigi Sbarra, at Palazzo Chigi this morning, who presented her with a bill of popular initiative on participation and economic democracy, already filed with the Italian Court of Cassation earlier today.

Statement by Palazzo Chigi on Venice cocaine seizure

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, express their appreciation for today’s large seizure of cocaine in Venice. “We are proud of this operation by the Guardia di Finanza [Italian Finance Police], which has made a second significant drugs seizure in a matter of days: after the 2,000-kilogram haul in the Sicilian channel, another 850 kilograms of cocaine have been seized in Venice today. A success for the men and women of the Guardia di Finanza, whom we congratulate, and a demonstration that the Government is serious about fighting drugs and will continue on the path of zero tolerance”.

Minister Fitto meets with Hungarian Minister Varga

The Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, met today with the Hungarian Minister of Justice and European Affairs, Judit Varga, in Rome. The meeting focused on the main issues currently on the European agenda, with particular regard to Ukraine, energy security, the reform of the European Union’s economic governance, migration and enlargement. The meeting also provided the opportunity for an initial exchange of views on the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2024.

Meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi

The meeting focused on the strengthening of bilateral relations, stabilisation of the Great Lakes region and Italy’s commitment, also in the European context, to the African continent.
