The Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, held a press conference today following the steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The meeting focused on a preliminary examination of the proposed overall revision of the NRRP, including the new REPowerEU chapter.

It is with great satisfaction that we welcome today’s decisions by the European Commission, and we also very much appreciate the words of President von der Leyen. The Commission’s positive assessment of our third payment request together with our amendment proposal for a number of measures regarding the fourth instalment, once approved by Member States, will allow Italy to receive the total of EUR 35 billion provided for by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) in 2023.

The fourth joint meeting of the institutional working group and the coordination committee for the Jubilee of 2025 was held today at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano. The meeting looked at the progress of ongoing works projects, implementing the measures agreed with the second DPCM [Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers] signed on 8 June.

On 2 August 1980, terrorism dealt Italy and its people one of its most ferocious blows. 43 years have gone by, but the violence of that terrible explosion, which devastated Bologna central station, killing 85 people and injuring more than two hundred others, still forcefully resonates in the nation’s heart and in its conscience. On the anniversary of the bombing, my first thoughts are with the relatives of the victims. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to them, as indeed do our most sincere thanks for the tenacity and determination they have put into the search for the truth, also through the associations that represent them, in constant contact with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

Durante l’incontro è stato fatto un punto sullo stato di avanzamento dei lavori già iniziati, in attuazione di quanto concordato con il secondo Dpcm, firmato lo scorso 8 giugno.

Il 2 agosto 1980 il terrorismo ha sferrato all’Italia e al suo popolo uno dei suoi colpi più feroci. Sono trascorsi 43 anni ma, nel cuore e nella coscienza della Nazione, risuona ancora con tutta la sua forza la violenza di quella terribile esplosione, che disintegrò la stazione di Bologna e uccise 85 persone e ne ferì oltre duecento. Nel giorno dell’anniversario rivolgo ai famigliari il mio primo pensiero. A loro va vicinanza, affetto, ma anche il più sentito ringraziamento per la tenacia e la determinazione che hanno messo al servizio della ricerca della verità, anche attraverso le associazioni che li rappresentano, in costante contatto con la Presidenza del Consiglio.
