Statement by Palazzo Chigi on earthquake in Morocco

9 September 2023

President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, in New Delhi today for the G20 Summit, has learned with deep sadness of the tragic toll of the devastating earthquake that has hit Morocco. President Meloni has expressed sympathy and solidarity with Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, the families of the victims and the Moroccan people, stating that Italy is fully ready to support Morocco in this emergency.

President Meloni meets with Prime Minister Sunak of the United Kingdom in India

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a long and cordial meeting today with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak. The meeting focused on preparations for the G20 Summit to be held tomorrow and Sunday, on the priority of continued support for Ukraine with a commitment to provide security guarantees, and on the urgent need to ensure an effective, global response to the major challenges of our societies, including artificial intelligence. The two Heads of Government also agreed on the need to look upon the joint efforts necessary for Africa’s development as a shared opportunity, also with respect to inhumane human trafficking that exploits migration flows.

Council of Ministers meeting no. 49 was held today at Palazzo Chigi. In the afternoon, President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara, Minister for the Family, Birth Rate and Equal Opportunities Eugenia Maria Roccella, Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi and Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin held a press conference to illustrate the measures adopted.

Foibe massacres and Istria–Rijeka-Dalmatia exodus: meeting of coordination committee for remembrance day commemorations

The inaugural meeting of the committee in charge of coordinating commemorations of the day of remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia was held at Palazzo Chigi today, in the presence of Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano. During his opening remarks, Undersecretary of State Mantovano underlined President Meloni’s special attention and awareness and the Government’s intention, through the Committee, to enhance synergy and coordination between all State authorities and the world of associations that are committed to preserving the memory and increasing knowledge of the tragic Foibe massacres and exodus.

Fifth joint meeting of institutional working group and coordination committee for the Jubilee 2025

The fifth joint meeting of the institutional working group and the coordination committee for the Jubilee of 2025 was held today at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano. Opening the meeting, Undersecretary of State Mantovano pointed out that the various thematic groups in charge of organising the event had continued to work throughout the month of August. The Mayor of Rome and Special Commissioner for the Jubilee 2025, Roberto Gualtieri, then took the floor and informed attendees about the progress of works projects and activities relating to hospitality services.

Ustica plane crash: statement by President Meloni

"Giuliano Amato’s words regarding Ustica are important and deserve attention. Former President of the Council of Ministers Amato does, however, point out that his words are the result of personal deductions. Bearing in mind that no documents concerning the DC9 tragedy are covered by state secrecy and that, over the decades, lengthy work has been carried out by the judicial authorities and parliamentary committees of enquiry, I would like to ask President Amato whether, in addition to his deductions, he is in possession of any elements that would allow for a return to the conclusions of the judiciary and of Parliament, and, if so, to make them available so that the Government may take all the necessary consequent steps”.

Upon her arrival, President Meloni met with parish priest Don Maurizio Patriciello in the church of San Paolo Apostolo.
