President Meloni’s statement on anniversary of the murder of Don Pino Puglisi

15 September 2023

Don Pino Puglisi is an example. Enlightened by the strength of his faith, he carried out his mission tirelessly, eventually making the ultimate sacrifice. In his beloved Palermo, where he was a priest in his native district of Brancaccio, he fearlessly defied the Mafia and gave his life to save youngsters and children from organised crime. Young people were his treasure, he took care of them and protected them against the Mafia’s deceptions and traps. The Mafia did not forgive him for this, and killed him. On the thirtieth anniversary of his martyrdom, Italy once again draws from his powerful lesson: “If each of us does something, then we can do a lot”.
