NRRP steering committee meeting held at Palazzo Chigi

A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) was held today at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by the Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto. The meeting, attended by all the ministers concerned, addressed the following points: verification of actual achievement of the objectives reported for the third instalment; status and progress of the milestones and targets to be met by 30 June 2023, also with reference to the requirements to be fulfilled by the implementing bodies; progress on the REPowerEU chapter.

NRRP: statement by Palazzo Chigi

Following Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto’s meetings with the European Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, and with the European Commission’s NRRP [National Recovery and Resilience Plan] task force, it has been agreed to prolong the ongoing assessment phase by one month, in order to allow the Commission services to complete their technical sample checks and verification activities, continuing with the fruitful discussions that have already allowed for most of the targets set for 31 December 2022 to be rated positively.

Today, Italy honours the victims of the Fosse Ardeatine massacre. Seventy-nine years ago, 335 Italians were barbarically slaughtered by occupying Nazi troops in retaliation for the Via Rasella attack by partisans in Rome. The massacre marked one of the deepest and most painful wounds ever inflicted on our national community.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, is continuing her intensive exchanges with other European leaders in preparation for the European Council meeting of 23-24 March, following the calls with German Federal Chancellor Scholz, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis and President of the European Commission von der Leyen. Ahead of the European Council meeting, which will begin in Brussels tomorrow morning, President Meloni had a telephone conversation today with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki.
