President Meloni’s statement on release of three kidnapped Italians in Mali

I would like to express my heartfelt felicitations on the release of our three compatriots who were kidnapped in Mali in 2022: Rocco Langone, his wife Maria Donata Caivano and their son Giovanni. I also wish to thank AISE for its extraordinary work which, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made it possible to achieve this difficult result.

Statement by Palazzo Chigi on release of three kidnapped Italians in Mali

Rocco Langone, his wife Maria Donata Caivano and their son Giovanni Langone, the three Italian citizens who were kidnapped from their home on the outskirts of the city of Koutiala, southeast of Bamako, the capital of Mali, on 19 May 2022, were freed last night. This area is particularly infiltrated by jihadist militia; the kidnapping was carried out by a jihadist faction linked to JNIM, the Group to Support Islam and Muslims, associated with al-Qa'ida, which is active in large parts of West Africa.

NATO: President Meloni congratulates Swedish Prime Minister

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, offers her congratulations to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson after today’s approval by the Hungarian Parliament paves the way for Sweden to become the 32nd member of the Atlantic Alliance. With Sweden’s accession, which Italy has strongly supported from the outset, NATO will become stronger in defending peace and freedom on the European continent.

Government holds meetings with representatives of trade unions and employers’ associations on workplace health and safety

The Government held two separate meetings with representatives of trade union organisations and employers’ associations at Palazzo Chigi today on the issue of workplace health and safety. On behalf of the Government, the meetings were attended by Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Calderone and Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano.

Press conference following Council of Ministers no. 71

Council of Ministers meeting no. 71 was held at Palazzo Chigi today. Following the meeting, Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Elvira Calderone and Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto held a press conference to illustrate the measures adopted.

President Meloni chairs first meeting of G7 Heads of State and Government under the Italian Presidency

On February 24th, on the second anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a meeting of the G7 Heads of State and Government. President Meloni joined from Kyiv, together with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. At the end of the meeting, a joint declaration on Ukraine was adopted.

Bilateral meeting with President Zelensky in Kyiv

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a bilateral meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Kyiv today, focusing on developments in the conflict in Ukraine. The meeting also provided an opportunity to reiterate that Ukraine is a key issue on the agenda of the Italian G7 Presidency, and to underscore the comprehensive support that Italy is providing to Kyiv, starting with reconstruction and security cooperation. At the end of the meeting, a security cooperation agreement was signed, in line with the commitments undertaken at G7 level during the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July 2023.

President Meloni visits Kyiv

On the second anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, today chaired a video-conference meeting of the G7 Heads of State and Government, the first under the Italian Presidency, from Kyiv. This morning, President Meloni, together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Prime Minister of Belgium and President-in-Office of the Council of the EU, Alexander De Croo, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, attended an honours ceremony for those who defended the airport of Hostomel, in the presence of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. Later, after visiting the Memory Wall of Fallen Defenders, the leaders met at Mariinsky Palace, where they issued statements to the press.

NRRP: steering committee approves fourth progress report

The steering committee for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) met at Palazzo Chigi this morning to examine the NRRP implementation progress report. The meeting, called and chaired by Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, was attended by all Ministries involved and representatives from ANCI [National Association of Italian Municipalities], UPI [Union of Italian Provinces] and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces.
