Phone call between President Meloni and President Erdoğan

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. President Meloni once again expressed her personal condolences and the solidarity of the Government and Italian people following the tragic earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria. President Erdoğan expressed deep gratitude for Italy’s immediate response to support Türkiye and the people affected, focusing in particular on the humanitarian aid and field hospital that Italy has provided. President Meloni expressed the entire nation’s great sympathy for Türkiye, assuring Italy’s full readiness to continue with rescue operations and assistance in coordination with European partners.

Over the last few hours, Minister of Justice Nordio has received a death threat and the headquarters of the Italian Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels has been defaced with words in support of convicted anarchist Alfredo Cospito. I wish to express solidarity with the Minister of Justice and all members of staff at the headquarters. The State is by their side and will not back down.

Press conference following Council of Ministers meeting no. 21

Council of Ministers meeting no. 21 was held at Palazzo Chigi today. Following the meeting, the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto and Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti held a press conference to illustrate the measures approved.

President Meloni’s statement on demolition of Michele Zagaria’s hideout

The demolition of the hideout used by organised crime boss Michele Zagaria in Casapesenna (in the province of Caserta) confirms that the State is present in a complex area that deserves the institutions’ full attention. Today’s operation is extremely important and symbolic, as it cancels out the place that was used by the boss of the Casalesi clan to control that area. Today is a good day for the State and for all those who love and defend legality. The fight against organised crime is one of the cornerstones of this Government’s action and we shall continue to work around the clock in this direction

Opening ceremony for the Carabinieri Officers’ School 2022/23 academic year

Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano read out President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni’s message of greeting on the occasion of the opening ceremony for the 2022/23 academic year at the ‘Scuola Ufficiali Carabinieri’ [‘Carabinieri Officers’ School’]. President Meloni was unable to attend the event in person due to flu symptoms.

Phone call between President Meloni and the Emir of Qatar

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, on the occasion of his official visit to Italy. President Meloni first of all expressed her regret that she was unable to attend the meetings at the Quirinale Palace with the President of the Republic due to a flu causing her to cancel all her scheduled engagements. During the call, the two leaders discussed the issues on the bilateral agenda in depth, with particular reference to regional cooperation, energy cooperation and investment, noting the opportunities for growth in relations between Italy and Qatar. They expressed their hope to soon have another opportunity to meet.

Palazzo Chigi lit up with Italian tricolour to mark day of remembrance

Palazzo Chigi, the seat of the Italian Government, was lit up with the Italian tricolour from 6pm on Friday 10 until dawn on Saturday 11 February, to mark the day of remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the Istrian–Dalmatian exodus. The words “Io ricordo” [“I remember”] were projected onto the centre of the building’s façade.
