President Meloni’s statement on Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the Istrian–Dalmatian exodus
Today, Italy marks the Day of Remembrance that pays tribute to the martyrs of the Foibe massacres and to the Italians of Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia who were forced to abandon their homes and their lands just because they were Italian. Hundreds of thousands of our compatriots had no choice but to flee, and, on several occasions, the nation failed to embrace them as it should have.

Foibe massacres: President Meloni signs decree to establish Remembrance Day committee
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, has signed a Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (‘DPCM’) establishing a committee to coordinate the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the post-World War II exodus of the people of Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia. The committee will ensure efficient and coordinated planning of the initiatives and ceremonies proposed by authorities to mark the Day of Remembrance, which was established by Law no. 92 of 30 March 2004. Palazzo Chigi, the seat of Government, will be lit up with the colours of the Italian tricolour from 6pm on Friday 10 until dawn on Saturday 11 February, with the words “I Remember” projected onto the centre of its façade.

I wish to express my satisfaction and warmest congratulations to all the intelligence, public security and police forces who allow these extraordinary results to be achieved. President Meloni’s statement on the work of Italian firefighters in Türkiye
“At present, based on the information available, the USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) teams of Italian firefighters in Türkiye have managed to save two young people in two separate rescue operations in Antioch, and are working to save others. I wish to send encouragement and heartfelt thanks to our altruistic compatriots who are bringing real help to the people affected by this apocalyptic earthquake, with their specific expertise in urban search and rescue operations”.

President Meloni in Milan
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, was in Milan today, where she met with the Metropolitan City’s Mayor, Giuseppe Sala, and heads of the public security forces. Following the meeting, which was held at the city’s Prefecture, President Meloni addressed journalists at a doorstep.
